MAKING OF DISC IT
Just before lunchtime at AFFIRMATIVE! Solutions’ manufacturing facility, the cook of the day would hook up a propane burner to one of these discs and cook lunch for the crew. After lunch, the disc, tank and burner were disconnected until the next day’s meal. In order to avoid the assembly and disassembly of the grill before and after each meal, they fabricated a stand with wheels, which would support the cooking setup.
With its humble, functional beginnings, the delicious food created on their new grill obviously got the creative juices of the company’s metal fabricators flowing. A basic design was created that would secure the propane tank to the unit so it wouldn’t fall out while in transit. Next, one of the four legs was re-designed to facilitate easy removal and filling of the propane tank.
Dubbed the “Disc-It” by the shop crew, the new grill was an immediate hit with employees, visitors and customers. Orders around New Mexico quickly poured in when word started to spread about the Disc-It grill. (Click here for Customer Testimonials) The first Disc-It grills were more utilitarian than artistic, but that too soon changed.
The imaginative minds and metal-shaping hands at AFFIRMATIVE! Solutions came up with original artistic designs that they incorporated into the legs and cooking surface handles of the Disc-It grill. Designs range from contemporary logos like the United States Marine Corps logo and business names to whimsical and artistic designs that include the popular Leaning Cowboy, Gecko, Mermaid, Bucking Horse, Firefighter and Bass fishing designs among dozens of others. Each leg design has a corresponding design featured on the handles of the Disc-It cooking surface. “I love cooking on my Disc-It! They are great for stir fry-type meals, and the Disc-It is truly the best way to cook Fajitas! I highly recommend this style of cooking to anyone. The more you cook on it, the better food tastes.”
